Attractions in Bujumbura

Bujumbura is a compact city, and most of its sights sit within a short drive of the centre — a monument marking one of exploration history's most famous meetings, a living museum, a river delta full of hippos, and a lakeshore lined with beaches.

Where everything is

Most city-centre sights are walkable from one another. The Livingstone–Stanley Monument (about 10–12 km south) and Rusizi National Park (about 15 km northwest) each need a taxi or tour — see getting around for realistic prices.

Coordinates on this map are approximate. For guided visits to Rusizi or the monument, hotels and local operators arrange half-day trips; going early morning gives the best hippo sightings and the coolest hours.
